Porsche will bring new base model to the New York auto show
Porsche will add a four-cylinder Macan crossover to its U.S. lineup, and will unveil the model at the New York auto show in a matter of days.
The four-pot in question will be a turbocharged 2.0-liter four pumping out 252 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, a version which has been on sale in Europe for a couple of years. This mill will be paired with a seven-speed PDK gearbox which will allow for sprints from 0 to 60 in 6.1 seconds; not supercar territory, but that’s what the Macan GTS is for.
The Macan is said to return 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway with weight savings over the base model amounting to 210 pounds. Not a tremendous improvement, though Porsche was not out to make a crash-diet Clubsport model armed with the flat-four engine. This version of the Macan will also keep all-wheel drive.
The new base Macan will start at $48,550, almost $7,000 off the price of the 340-hp Macan S, which has been the base version since the SUV’s introduction to the States. This should help justify this model over its competitors, which include the much more modestly priced Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3 and Audi Q5.
Expect to see it in dealerships in July.
